Art Of The Title Class Activity

Image
Today in class we reviewed many marketing techniques and titles on Artofthetitle.com. The movie Lady Bird caught my attention. The title was written in a calligraphy font to show the time period of the movie. I thought the organization was very well done.  The title sequence was a simple black screen with the names rolling along with some incidental music. I would like to use this in my film because it is simple and a nice closing to any film.   https://www.artofthetitle.com/title/lady-bir d/

Audience Engagement Exercise - Let It Snow

Image
Let It Snow is a 2019 movie about a snow storm hitting a small town, forcing the community to come together. The cast consists of mainly youth and the prevailing message is about friendship. Although my film targets a more serious topic, both films target a youth audience and both have a underlying meaning for the product. A trailer was released, interesting many people. To keep the talk going, posters and a social media account was created. This kept the audience excited before the release of the movie. I would use the aspect of a social media account for my film. I think this would create excitement as the film is not out yet.

Audience Engagement Exercise- The Hate U Give

Image
The Hate U Give is 2018 movie with a emotional story targeting police brutality. The audience consisted of teen and people in their early 20's. The story was based on teens and targeted a very popular, controversial topic. Just like my film, the characters are teens and it portrays a everyday issues that teens face. While mine is focused on alcoholism, this movie is focused on racism. Both are frequently talked about issues. A intriguing trailer was released along with billboards. When a social media video ad would come across anyone, they would have been very interested because teens like to watch films calling out sensitive subjects. I would also create a trailer that would show the popular issue that I am trying to convey. Hopefully this would fascinate the youth. The movie was heavily talked about at mental health conventions, which increased the audience. I would bring my film/trailer to many mental health conventions to help promote my product.

Audience Engagement Exercise - The Sun Is Also a Star

Image
The Sun Is Also A Star is a 2019 movie about a girl who's skin cannot touch sunlight, but then meets a boy who loves her for who she is. My film and this movie share the same target audience. This being teens, both products contain young characters and an emotional ride. Posters and trailers were used to market the movie. A persuasive technique that was used was having a boy and a girl being the face of the marketing. This interested teens as they assumed it was a love story. A social media account was created to keep the audience updated and engaged. To market my product, I would release a trailer, social media and a poster. This would hopefully hook any potential customers and alert them that this film is in production.

My Target Audience

My ideal target audience for this film is middle, high, and college students. Both male and females between the ages of 13-20 will be able to relate to the "I am ok" act. I think my film would be appealing to my audience because it is a very common situation that many people have gone through. It is rare for a subject like this to be shed light on, and some students may be interested on how it is conveyed and presented. Due to this subject being so common and relatable, but so unlikely to be talked about, people can be drawn to the film. Also, youth that struggles with family issues, alcoholic figures, and depression may be appealed to this film as though they can relate to what the main character is feeling.

Feedback and Revisions

Before my final submission to AICE, I plan to make some minor changes to my film. Seeing all of my classmate's films showed me what mine was missing. My partner and I plan to cut the credits in half because it did take up a good portion of the opening. We need to add song credits on top of cutting the credit scene shorter. To do this we could put multiple names on the screen at once, according to the scene sequence the are seen in. Also, the film needs around 20 seconds added to it. In order to this, I decided to add a scene. I decided on having the main character walk into her room and the camera capture her grabbing her journal. Rather then the camera instantly showing her on the bed writing, it will create a sense of habit, showing that Mia grabs her journal frequently to write in it. I will need to create another filming day, preferably February 1st. I will have to wear the same clothes in order to portray the scene correctly. Lastly, it was caught by one of my classmates that ...
